Ep 101 // Social Emotional Learning - Teaching Students to Think Positive with Victoria from The Mindful Apple
Inside This Week’s Episode: — Teaching students to think positively can impact all areas of their life - from school to home. Positive thinking, like any social emotional learning skill, takes repeated practice and Victoria from The Mindful Apple is sharing how to teach our students to think positive in an often all-too-negative world.
The time for positivity is Now.
We this post and podcast episode goes live, it’s the first Monday of 2022.
And, I know many of you are heading back to school after some time off.
Returning to work after being off for a week or more can make you feel a little ...blah. I get that. I'm right there with you.
This is the Monday-iest Monday in all the Mondays. (some might say...)
You may be dragging your feet a little bit more than usual today which is EXACTLY why I chose today's podcast topic, and EXACTLY why you need to listen to it on your way to school this week!
Because, guess what? Today can actually just be a Monday. It doesn't have to be a negative thing.
It's all about positive thinking.
I've chosen today's podcast episode because if you're like me, you need to hear the message that my guest Victoria from The Mindful Apple is sharing with all of us.
And it's a message (& skill) we MUST be modeling and teaching for our students: POSITIVE THINKING.
And as we start a new year (I'm looking at YOU, 2022!) - we can totally start off on a positive note. The power of positivity is in us all - and it's in our students - we just have to teach our students how to harness it.
Positive thinking in a negative situation doesn't erase the bad, but it DOES give us a way to respond to any situation or circumstance in a productive way.
I seriously think this is one of the BEST episodes I've done on the podcast because let's face it - not a whole lot feels very positive right now. But WE have the power to control our thoughts, words, and actions, and so do our students.
Victoria is going to teach us how to make positive thinking part of your every day classroom vibe.
Victoria brings with her years of experience in working with students to help develop social emotional learning skills, like positive thinking, and gives students these life skills to build stronger mental health.
Get ready to help students harness the power of positive thinking
Here’s a Snapshot:
There are plenty of reasons to have a negative outlook on life. Students absorb a lot of this negativity and don’t always know what to do with it. That’s why teaching students to think positive is so crucial.
Thinking positive is all about focusing on the good - with repeated practice. It doesn’t mean we try to cover up the bad parts of life, but it does mean that we choose to focus on the good OVER the bad.
Positive thoughts become positive words. Positive words become positive actions. Positive actions turn into having a positive character. This is the flow we want to teach our students so that they can see the impact and the power that comes with beginning with a positive inner dialogue.
We have the power to break the cycle of negativity. We can’t control outside circumstances, but we can control our thoughts and words.
Find a positivity partner. This is someone who can help you see the positive outlook when we are clouded with negativity. Students need to see the benefit surrounding themselves with other positive people.
Practice positively daily with your students using affirmations.
