Inside This Week’s Episode: Every teacher is a new teacher once! We all have to go through it… and we all learn from it! If you’re stepping into the classroom for the first time, then check out these must-know tips to help make your first year a success!

IT CAN BE TOUGH BEING THE NEW GUY, RIGHT?

You may just be beginning your teaching journey, but that doesn’t mean you have to do it alone!

We’ve all been there. While you might be excited to get that first year under your belt, you’re also likely feeling overwhelmed trying to process all. the. things.

But, wait. Pause. Take a deep breath.

Then - listen to this week’s episode. I’m sharing what really matters as a first year teacher …and what doesn’t. What you should focus on, and what you can put on the back burner.

The truth is: You can’t (and shouldn’t) try to do it all. So, let’s take control of what we can, and be ready to learn along the way!

Get ready to face year 1 head on!

Here’s a Snapshot:

  • Focus on stocking up your classroom library FIRST and resist the temptation to buy anything for your classroom without knowing its purpose.

  • Make fine-tuning your classroom management system and building relationships with students your #1 priority and everything else will follow.

  • Do NOT compare yourself to what you see on social media or to veteran teachers in your building. Focus on building and growing your own success.

  • Set boundaries and practice keeping them! Do not allow yourself to become completely consumed to your job. Maintain hobbies and outside relationships to strike a balance between work and play. I’ll share some routines and procedures that you can set for yourself to help you stick to those boundaries.

  • Consider how you can batch your lesson planning. Learning to focus on planning one subject area for a specific time period will reduce mental energy used to shift from topic to topic. I’ll walk you through simple process of what this might look like.

  • Give yourself some grace. Make the mistakes and move on.
